dawn dausman : children's COORDINATOR
Where were you born? Tampa, Florida. I grew up in Ohio, then lived in Chicago, Illinois, Louisville, Kentucky, and now, Charleston, South Carolina. I like to think that I’m just getting back to my Southern roots (y’all;)
Tell us about your family: I am married to Brian Dausman, who is exactly what I needed! We will celebrate ten years of marriage in August 2012. We have two beautiful, Jesus-lovin’ young children, Amelia, my sensitive introvert, and Tallulah, my confident and feisty extrovert.
What were you doing before you came to work at JICC? I was a corporate event planner for most of my adult career. Then, I had my first baby and threw myself into being a full-time mom for five years. It is the best job ever- teaches me patience, humility, and compassion continually. I’d always promised myself that I’d never go back to work if it’d not been a calling. So, I guess I’ve been called ;).
What do you like to do to relax? Cook and Write. The common thread of this is family and friends; attempting to love them well with a full belly and/or words of encouragement. I think YOU’RE super!
What is a random fun fact about yourself? Shoot, I have two fun facts. I ran the Honolulu marathon. One of the most beautiful four hours of my life (I said ran, just not super-fast ;). Second, I won the Lee Brother recipe contest for heirloom pumpkin bisque. I can cook you a mean pot of soup.
Describe your perfect vacation: Me and my hubs sitting quietly on the front porch of a little wooden cabin somewhere in the woods… with access to a beach and no access to the internet ;). All peace and silence and togetherness. Funny how desires change when you have children.
What is your favorite sports team? Truth be told, this girl isn’t so athletically inclined. So as my daughter would say, “I go for Kentucky!” Brian’s alma mater (Sorry BGSU and UIUC)… I mean, did you see the 2012 NCAA basketball tournament?
What’s the best thing about working at JICC? The people! I am so honored to be a part of so many lives, and have the opportunities I have to love like Jesus- down to the littlest of them! I am continually stretched in my faith walk as I come along side others in theirs. Not to mention, the staff is pretty stinkin’ amazing too!
